PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM TAP, JAZZ AND TUMBLING (Ages 2.5-5)
Pre 1 (1.5 - 3) Child must be potty trained.
Pre 2 (3.5 - 4)
Pre 3 (4 - 5) At Connecticut Dance Theatre & the Arts, the pre-school children have a “3 in 1” class. This is based on the premise of the younger child having only a twenty minute attention span, the class has three sessions of twenty minutes each. These are in succession and include Tap, Jazz and Tumbling. Much can be accomplished in the twenty minutes since the children do not become bored. This program emphasizes on coordination, confidence, discipline and creativity. Ballet for preschoolers is also offered in the Ballet Program for ages 4-6.
RECREATIONAL CHILDREN'S PROGRAM (ages 6-11)
Children's program consists of half hour classes. (See descriptions under Programs) The class is based on the premise of learning through exercise and music. Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Lyrical are available. Ballet, as the basis of dance technique is highly recommended. Please see ballet program for classes.
RECREATIONAL TEEN PROGRAM (ages 12 and up)
Pre teen and teen program consists of a half hour classes. (See descriptions under programs) The class is based on the premise of learning through exercise and music. Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Lyrical are available. Ballet, as the basis of dance technique is highly recommended. Please see ballet program for classes.
PRE-PROFESSIONAL BALLET PROGRAM (ages 4 and up) This program is designed for the committed dancer who loves ballet.
Elementary Ballet - (Ages 4-6) An introduction to ballet with beginning development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness and a specific focus on class etiquette. Students will begin positions of the feet, and introductory movement vocabulary. This class is forty five minutes and offered once a week.
Ballet Level 1 - (Ages 7-9) The goal of Ballet Level 1 is to impart the fundamentals of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. Students will be introduced to elementary barre and center work. This class is one hour offered once a week.
Ballet Level 2 - (Ages 10-12) As with each level, students are invited to Ballet Level 2 after they have demonstrated full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. This class will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body and increased movement vocabulary. This class is one hour and meets twice a week.
Ballet Level 3 - (Ages 13 and up) In Ballet Level 3, attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work Students begin focus on repetition and retention. This class is one and a half hours and meets twice a week. With this Level, students are given the option to add additional classes to strengthen their core, increase flexibility and round out their movement vocabulary.
